You make it sound like Vince just showed up one day, and began playing. If there was any weirdness, I'm sure the rest of the band knew about it before Vince ever played a lick, after all, they chose him to fill that seat.

I mean it was just unnatural and they needed a transition period to assimilate him into the flow.

And I don't think he was ever completely comfortable in that seat.

I think the transition period was actually part of the problem. Listen to the handful of shows before Bruce joined in Sept 1990. Vince sounds pretty good playing the standard parts. Nothing amazing, but tasteful. Bruce crowded him out, didn't let him fully develop, and for that reason I think he was always tentative in the hot seat. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was some amazing musician, but he wasn't all that bad. They misahandled him.
